Abstract

949,454. Friction clutches. FRANCAISE DU FERODO S.A. Dec. 20, 1962 [Dec. 27, 1961], No. 48189/62. Heading F2C. In an electromagnetic clutch having a rotating electromagnet 18 rigid with the driving member 17, the armature 23 moves axially to engage the clutch and is coupled to the driven member 24 by a flexible diaphragm 26 supported by a washer 35. A fan 25 is secured to the hub 24 freely rotatable on a shaft 12 splined at 15 to the driving members 16, 17 and rotatable in a fixed housing 10 secured to a vehicle engine. The diaphragm 26 has non - radial spokes and is strengthened and assisted towards the disengaged position by a washer 35 riveted to the centre of the diaphragm. In other embodiments, the central shaft is the driving shaft and is surrounded by the fixed easing.
