949,152. Printing apparatus. W. RITZERFELD, and G. RITZERFELD. Nov. 2, 1962 [Nov. 23, 1961], No. 41498/62. Heading B6C. An offset lithographic printing machine comprises a cylinder 1 adapted to carry a printing master sheet 2, an offset roller 14 carrying on part of its periphery a rubber apron 26 movable step-by-step and extending into the interior of the roller 14 and on a further part of its periphery a fixed apron or other transfer member 25, and means for moving the roller 14 towards and away from the cylinder 1 so that after initially receiving the text from the master sheet the roller 14 is swung against the cylinder 1 during each following revolution thereof only at such times that the roller is in a position for engaging the master sheet 2 by its apron 25. The apron 26 is moved around the periphery of the roller 14 by means as described in Specification 955,542 so that selected lines of the text thereon are printed on a sheet 55 fed to an impression roller 20. By means of levers 49 and eccentrics 51 the roller 14 is caused to cooperate with the cylinder 1 and the heading is transferred to the apron 25 and the text to the apron 26. The roller 14 is now swung against the impression roller 20 carrying a sheet 55 and prints the heading and the first line of the text for instance. The apron 26 is moved by one text line and on the next revolution the heading and the second line are printed, and so on. The offset roller may be moved by electromagnets, Fig. 5 (not shown), and it may be provided with a single apron, Fig. 4 (not shown), part of which is held immovably on a peripheral portion of the cylinder and prints the heading. The impression cylinder may be tripped by a manual lever, Fig. 1, or by cam means, Fig. 7 (not shown). A moistening mechanism 4, 5, 6 and 7 and an inking mechanism 89, 10, 11, 12 and 13 co-operate with the cylinder 1 and both aprons are washed by a device 57, 58, 59. A lever 116 may be adjusted to produce whole page duplication.
