Abstract
In a process for the production of spheroidal graphite iron, the metal is first treated with sodium in vapour form to reduce the sulphur content to below 0.03% before the addition of the spheroidizing agent. The process is preferably carried out in a crucible induction furnace but may be carried out in a ladle and 0.04% Mg or 0.02% Ce may be added as spheroidizing agent.
