Abstract
947,505. Continuous casting - machines. CENTRE NATIONAL DE RECHERCHES METALLURGIQUES. Sept. 25, 1961 [Nov. 4, 1960], No. 34199/61. Heading B3F. Lubricant flowing down the inner face of a continuous casting mould 2 from openings 6 is shielded from heat radiation by a screen 7. The screen is double walled and gas-cooled, the outer wall having ports 10 which allow the coolant gas to blow obliquely downward on to the lubricant flowing down the mould inner face. The screen is carried on a frame 13 which may be raised and lowered by rack-andpinion mechanism 18 driven by a motor 17 controlled by means 14, 15 responsive to the level of metal in the mould, so that the screen is maintained at a constant distance above the level of the melt.
