Abstract

The invention comprises 4-amino-5-(lower alkoxy) - 6 - halo - pyrimidines (the word "lower" indicating a group of 1-6 carbon atoms), e.g. 4-amino - 5 - methoxy - 6 -chloro - pyrimidine. The compounds are prepared by reacting a 4,6-dihalo - 5 - (lower alkoxy) - pyrimidine with ammonia e.g. with liquid ammonia or a solution of gaseous ammonia in dimethyl formanide.
