Abstract

946,200. Bearings. A. P. PEDRICK. Oct. 20, 1962, No. 39788/62. Addition to 925,268. Heading F2A. In modifications of Specfication 925,268 the skirt of the housing, Fig. 1a is conicalshaped so as to provide clearance for dirt &c. which may adhere to the spherical member A; holes are provided in the skirt to facilitate the escape of pressurized air; a member B, Fig. 2a, is slidable in the housing, forms an air chamber G with said housing and a floor D and has a spaced relationship with the member A so as to allow an air cushion therebetween, holes J being provided in a pressurized air supply pipe F so as to maintain the floor D at an effective height from the ground by regulating the pressure in the chamber G; the pressure in the chamber G is additionally regulated by holes K, Fig. 2b, in the housing; the member B, Fig. 3a, extends over a greater surface of the member A and balls L are mounted in recesses of the member B to preserve a minimum spacing between the members A and B; the air flow is reduced by balls a, Fig. 4a, each being located in a bore of the member B; the bores for the balls a may be inclined as shown in Fig. 4c; the space above the member A, Fig. 5a contains the balls a; and the balls a, Fig. 5b are received in holes of a member M which form valve seatings so as to allow the variation of clearance between the members A and M.
