Abstract

945,921. Cellulosic sheets impregnated with ferric iron. FLORIDIENNE, J. BUTTGENBACH & CIE. S. A. June 6, 1962 [Sept. 26, 1961], No.21880/62. Heading D1P. The water-repellency of cellulose sheet material made from waste paper is increased by treating with an aqueous acid solution of a ferric salt of an organic acid, the salt being adapted to hydrolyse to yield ferric hydroxide which is adsorbed by the cellulose, and drying the treated material. The organic acid may be formic, acetic, oxalic, tartaric, or citric acid. The treating solution may contain 10-25 gm/1 or ferric acetate, 3. 4-8. 7 gm/1 of free acetic acid, and have a pH of 3-4. The cellulose material may increase in weight by 1-2% by the treatment.
