A hollow dispenser 11 having a dispensing aperture is arranged to receive a fluent solid container 23, for example a packet of soap powder or the like, so that it divides the dispenser into two chambers, respectively the inside and outside of the container, the chamber outside the container having the dispensing aperture at one end; the arrangement is such that if an opening 22 is made in the container 23 in a position spaced from the dispensing aperture then on appropriate movement of the dispenser part of the contained solid passes into the second chamber and on further appropriate movement this amount of material will be discharged through the dispensing aperture. The dispenser is formed as a box with one end 1 open and a flanged partition 19 is fixed inside the dispenser so that at the closed end a small aperture 22 is left between the chambers on each side of the partition. The larger chamber is shaped to receive a packet of soap powder or the like which has a hole in one side corresponding to the aperture 22. In use the dispenser is moved from a position in which the closed end is lowermost to a position in which the smaller chamber is lowermost, this results in an amount of powder flowing into the small chamber, further rotation of the dispenser will discharge this small amount from the dispensing aperture while the powder in the packet falls away from the aperture 22. The dispenser may alternatively be used without the packet; the powder being inserted into the larger chamber direct. The dispenser is closed at its open end by a flap or flaps 26, which may have an aperture to register with the smaller chamber to allow the dispensed soap powder to pass through, or alternatively it may be necessary to open the flaps to allow the soap powder to be dispensed. The dispenser may be so arranged that both ends can be opened so that the dispenser can be folded flat when not in use.
