Abstract

944,225. Masted lift trucks. LINDE'S EISMASCHINEN A.G. GES FUR. Dec. 1, 1960 [Dec. 4, 1959], No. 41342/60. Heading B8H. The mast assembly of a fork lift truck comprises a single fixed primary mast 1, a secondary mast 4 slidable on the primary mast and a lift carriage 5 slidable on the secondary mast, with lifting means for both raising the carriage on the secondary mast and subsequently raising the secondary mast on the primary mast. As shown, the secondary mast 4 is tubular and surrounds the open topped tubular primary mast 1, there being an hydraulic ram cylinder 7 secured to the top plate 6 of mast 4 and extending down into the mast 1. The carriage 5 is raised on the mast 4 by a pair of chains 9, 10, passing from the carriage, over pulleys or sprockets 12, 11 mounted on the plate 6 and hollow piston-rod 14 of ram cylinder 7 respectively, to anchorages 8 on the plate 6. As the piston 15 reaches the bottom of cylinder 7, when the carriage 5 reaches the top of mast 4, a valve 18 in the piston is opened on engagement with the cylinder bottom 19 thereby allowing pressure fluid to pass from the cylinder 7 into the hollow piston-rod 14 to force down a piston 20 which is provided with a piston-rod 23 engaging the base of the mast 1, whereby the mast 4 is raised on the mast 1. The carriage 5 is locked automatically at the top of the mast 4 by engagement of a lug 27 on the carriage with a slot 26 in a rotatable cam so that the cam is rotated thereby to bring its surface 29 into contact with a wedge 32 which is moved upwardly by a spring 31 after a retaining catch 34 has been released by the carriage.
