870,361. Fork lift trucks. MULTI-LIFT CO. March 9, 1959, No. 8034/59. Class 78 (3). A lift truck mast comprises a fixed lower section 32, an intermediate section 34 secured to the piston rod 70 of an hydraulic ram, the cylinder 58 of which is supported by the section 32, an upper section 36 carrying a lifting carriage 42, a pair of cables 82 anchored at 84, 90 on the cylinder 58 and section 36 respectively, and passing over pulleys 76 on section 34, and a pair of cables 80 passing over pulleys 74 on section 36 and anchored at 94, 96 to the section 34 and carriage 42 respectively. In operation extension of the ram moves the carriage continuously with a 3: 1 velocity ratio. In a modification (Figs. 8-10, not shown) a similarly constructed mast is provided with a further movable section and has a velocity ratio of 4: 1. U.S.A. Specification 2,514,052 is referred to.
