An electrically heated boiling or heating plate in a cooking stove or boiling ring has an element 12 of the tubular sheathed radiant-type supported above and vertically slidable with respect to a reflector plate 16 which is supported in turn above and is spaced, at least over the greater part of its area, from a shield 10, the arrangement being such that the reflector plate can be removed from beneath the element after raising the element away from the reflector plate. In the arrangement shown the shield 10 is the hob of a cooker and the element 12 is supported by a tubular member 14 which slides in a tubular guide 25 mounted in an opening in a raised disc-shaped portion 11 of the hob 10. A cover 36 is brazed to the member 14 and to the sheath of the element 12. Flexible power leads 38 and an earth lead 39 are connected to a terminal block 40. A spider or other support 43 spaces the element 12 from the reflector 16 which is spaced from the hob 10 by washers 24 mounted on three or more studs 20 brazed to the reflector 16 and entering sheet-metal cups 21 pressed into openings in the hob 10. Alternatively, the reflector 16 may be spaced from the hob 10 by three or more pimples or domes formed on the surface of the latter. Draining openings 41 for spillage are provided in the raised surround 13 of the hob 10. To remove the reflector 16, e.g. for cleaning, the element 12 is raised so that the member 14 slides in the guide 25, a spring clip (Fig. 4, not shown) being provided to prevent angular movement and to limit the vertical movement.
