Abstract
942,941. Rollers. W. HARGREAVES & CO. Ltd. May 20, 1960 [April 7, 1959], No. 11671/59. Heading A1B. A roller of the kind comprising a drum 10 with an engine 23 housed therein including a pair of driving wheels 48, 49 coupled by gearing and mounted on a chassis 22 adapted to be rocked about an axle 21 so as to be alternatively engageable with, and disengageable from the inside of the drum is characterized in that the torque reaction at the gearing on either wheel and from frictional resistance with the roller is in such direction as to load such wheel against the drum. As shown a pair of inertia weights 19, 20 carry between them a stub axle 21 supporting the chassis 22 for the engine 23. The engine frame is maintained in equilibrium by springs 24, 25 and the frame may be tilted by flexible cables 28, 29 connected to a lever 31 attached to a worm wheel 32 in mesh with a worm 33 carried by a twist grip handlebar 34. The wheels 48, 49 are mounted on shafts 44, 45 driven from a shaft 37 by bevel gearing 38, 39, the shaft 37 being driven from the motor through a shaft 41.
