Abstract
942,244. Return-tube steam boilers. M. C. K. DE PORAY. Sept. 7, 1962 [Sept. 15, 1961], No. 34418/62. Heading F4A. In a return tube boiler a vertical partition 15 secured to the lower part of the shell 1 and extending between the tube plates 8a, 10a divides the water space into zones A and B respectively containing an eccentrically mounted fire tube 3 and a laterally positioned nest of smoke tubes 9. To promote water circulation in the zone A, the fire tube near its outlet end has a portion 5 of reduced diameter which is lined with heat insulating refractory material to prevent evaporation of water which can then circulate as shown by the arrows f1 . . . f5. Feed water enters the lower portion of the zone B through a pipe 16, is heated by the lower tubes 9b and evaporated by the upper tubes 9a. To promote circulation around the upper tubes an arcuate baffle 13 forming with the adjacent shell surface a downcomer space is provided, a deflector plate 14 diverting the descending stream into the tube bank, as shown by the arrow c. The smoke tubes are provided with gas accelerating cores 17 and soot-blowing steam or air nozzles 18. Gases leave the front smoke box 10 through a duct 11 passing forwards beneath the zone B to a stack connection 12. Specification 695,687 is referred to.
