An interdigitated rotor 4 has at least part 10 of the radially slotted or corrugated coil former 5 in contact with pole 3. The rotor being impregnated with an insulating varnish which flows into the channels formed by former 5 and pole 3, and, when dry, provides a mechanical connection to secure the two together.
