Abstract

937,062. Reciprocating compressors. WORTHINGTON CORPORATION. May 8, 1962, No. 17708/62. Class 8(1). Unloading is effected by a sleeve 22 slidably mounted about the cylinder 9 and urged by a spring 27 against a cylinder flange 13 so as to cut off communication between the suction inlet chamber 12 and the suction manifold 7. The action of the spring 27 is overcome during normal operation of the compressor by fluid e.g., oil pressure admitted through a duct 29 to a chamber 23 formed by a recessed portion of the sleeve and a cylinder flange 20. A partition 6 divides the compressor casing 2 into the suction manifold 7 and a discharge compartment 8 whilst a partition 3 to which duct 29 is secured divides the suction manifold from the crankcase.
