Abstract

A high energy fuel comprises a fluid mixture of 20-60% of a friable low ductility magnesium containing alloy or compound in the form of equiaxed particles less than 1m size dispersed in a hydrocarbon liquid. The alloy or compound preferably contains calcium, aluminium, silicon or boron, examples being given. Benzene, toluene, gasoline, kerosene, diesel fuel and jet fuel are specified hydrocarbon liquids. Optional ingredients are dispersants, e.g. lecithin, sorbitan trioleate and other sorbitan esters, oxazolines, dioctyl sodium sulphosuccinate, polyoxyethylene lauryl ether and propylene oxide stearyl ether, and gelling agents, e.g. aluminium soaps.ALSO:A high energy fuel comprises a fluid mixture of 20-60% of a friable low ductility magnesium containing alloy or compound in the form of equi-axed particles less than 1 m size dispersed in an hydrocarbon liquid. Specified magnesium containing materials are magnesium-aluminium alloys containing 14-85% aluminium, especially Mg17Al12; magnesium calcium alloys containing 15-80% of calcium particularly from the eutectic at 16.3 to 45%, e.g. Mg2Ca; magnesium silicon alloys containing 3-60% of silicon; and magnesium-boron compounds corresponding to MgB2; MgB4; and MgB6. In individual examples, the amount of metal other than the magnesium is calcium 15%, 17% and 45%; silicon 10% and 37%; and aluminium 15%, 32%, 65% and 67%, the figures being in weight per cent.
