936,497. Screw propelling apparatus. N. H. HOTCHKISS, [Representative of D. V. HOTCHKISS]. July 20, 1961 [Sept. 12, 1960], No. 31341/60. Class 114. A propelling apparatus, Fig. 2, comprises a hollow casing P presenting a cone shaped interior, fluid inlet and discharge flumes I, D, a cone shaped propeller hub F concentrically mounted for rotation in the casing, and a screw propeller V located on the hub centrally of the casing. In Figs. 5 and 6 the casing P has an interior of aligned twin-cone shaped form, the hub F being of twin cone shape with the screw propeller V at its centre. The propellers are reversible, the apparatus of Fig. 1 (not shown) giving a greater thrust in one direction than in the other, or reverse action may be obtained by use of a hinged flap valve R, Fig. 7, in the discharge flume D. The embodiment of Fig. 5 gives equal thrust for both directions of rotation of the propeller hub.
