A liquid-ring compressor comprises a fixed central body having intake and delivery channels for the gas and an intake duct for the liquid, two central fixed cones symmetrically arranged with respect to the central body and communicating with the channels and intake duct, a casing on each side of the central body, and two impellers symmetrically mounted on a central shaft which is supported at its ends by supports that are connected to the casings and have chambers for liquid for cooling and lubricating stuffing boxes connected to the shaft. Casings 13, Fig. 1, are bolted to a central body 1, cones 8 each being interposed between the body 1 and the respective casing 13 and held in place by the latter. End housings 15, carrying bearings 18 and stuffing boxes 21, are bolted to the casings 13. A screw 25 at each end of the shaft serves to hold a bush 19, sleeve 23 and impeller 12 in place on the shaft, with the impeller abutting against a shoulder 20a. The left-hand bush 19 is integral with a shaft coupling 19a. The bearings are cooled by vanes 19b. Lubricating and cooling liquid is supplied to the stuffing boxes 21 through intakes 17a. The central body 1 is provided with an inlet 4 and outlet 6, Fig. 2, for the gas and an inlet 7 for the ring-forming liquid. From the inlet 7, the liquid passes around the shaft at 30 and then issues through the gas inlet ports 10 in the form of blade-like jets, the surface of each jet being parallel to the inner surface of the liquid ring 33. The jets improve the liquid seal in the areas between the gas inlet ports 10 and outlet ports 10a. The jets are formed by plates 31 which are adjustable so as to regulate the rate of flow and the form of the jets.
