In a decatising machine there is provided a pivotally mounted tensioning bar 9, a pressure roller 4 and a pivotally mounted suction table 13 coupled to the tensioning bar 9 and pressure roller 4, a decatising cylinder 3 and means for feeding cloth 1 and a wrapper 2 over the bar 9, table 13 and roller 4 onto the decatising cylinder 3 to form a roll, the pressure, roller 4 bearing against the roll formed on cylinder 3 and together with the table 13 being adapted to swing outwardly from the cylinder 3 as the diameter of the roll increases. Preferably a pair of guide arms 7, (8) connect the tensioning bar 9 to the pressure roller 4 and also support the suction table 13. A pair of fluid operated doubleacting cylinders 5, act on the guide arms 7, 8 adjacent the ends thereof connected to the bar 9 to press the roller 4 against the roll on cylinder 3. The suction table consists of a trough-like housing 12 covered with a perforated plate 13, the housing 12 being connected to a source of suction. The density of perforations in the plate 13 is greater along the two longitudinally extending marginal regions than in the central region. If desired a nozzle chamber (14, Fig. 3) can be located above the suction table and hot-air, steam or other gas can be blown onto the cloth and wrapper as they pass over the suction plateto give a desired drying action.
