A spoked-wheel rim comprises a light metal extrusion 2 having a recess 4 in its rim base portion 3, the edges 6 of the recess being undercut, and a band 1 of harder metal, such as stainless steel, secured in the recess by engagement of its chamfered edges 5 within the undercut edges 6. In manufacture, the band 1 is transversely arched in a direction opposite to the transverse curvature of the rim base, and then positioned in the recess 4 in an appropriate length of the extrusion. The curvature of the band is then reversed to seat it in the recess and the assembly then bent into a circle and the abutting ends of the extrusion welded together. The thickness of the band 1 may equal the depth of the recess 4 to provide a smooth transition at the edges 5, 6. Alternatively, the band thickness may be less than the recess depth, Fig. 5, so that after assembly of the band 1 in the recess, the recess edges 6 may be pressed down on to the band, Fig. 6.
