Abstract
932,921. Portable vessels. O. A. C. VON MYHRE. May 28, 1962 [April 28, 1961], No. 15437/61. Class 66. In a receptacle for holding liquids, such as a jug, coffee pot or teapot, and having a body portion made of a frangible material such as porcelain, glass or brittle plastic, an intermediate resilient layer is dipped, sprayed or painted on the body portion and an outer protective layer of metal is electro-deposited on the resilient layer and on the body portion at the edges of the resilient layer to completely enclose the resilient layer. As shown, a jug 1 having an integral handle 2 and a spout 3 is dipped in rubber or plastic which is allowed to cool to form the layer 5, Fig. 2, and impregnated with metallic pigment 6 on which the metallic finishing layer 7 of nickel, copper, brass &c. is electro-deposited, the layer 7 extending at 8 within the openings of the jug. An additional finishing layer 9 of gold or chromium may be electroplated on the layer 7. The surface of the jug may be covered with glaze 4 and silver or bronze heat conducting paint may be baked into the glaze on all or part of the outer surface of the jug, before the application of the resilient layer. More than one resilient layer may be provided, one of which is asbestos painted on in liquid form, and a lid for the vessel may be similarly provided with a resilient layer.
