Abstract
930,545. Magnetic recording heads; local circuits. TELEFUNKEN G.m.b.H. Sept. 4, 1959 [Sept. 4, 1958], No. 30184/59. Class 40 (2). To improve the high-frequency response in magnetic recording, bias current is applied at the gap 2 of a recording head to produce a localised bias field. A gap-spacer such as beryllium copper 5 may form the bias winding, the audio current being applied to a coil 4 in the usual way. If the core 1 is of high electrical conductivity, insulators 10 may be placed on one or both sides of the spacer 5 as in Fig. 4 (or Fig. 3, not shown). Alternatively, the bias winding may take a hairpin form, Fig. 5, or may be a winding 14 mounted closely behind the recording gap 2, Fig. 6.
