Abstract

930,248. Balanced flue outlets. GAS COUNCIL. April 27, 1962 [May 3, 1961], No. 16076/61. Class 25. In a balanced flue terminal in which the combustion products outlet 20 and the air inlet 30 terminate in a box-like chamber adapted to be built into a wall with its open or front end 15 substantially flush with the wall face, the combustion product outlet is in the form of a tapering passage 33 in the upper part of the chamber projecting towards but terminating short of the open end of the chamber, beyond the air inlet 30 which opens from the lower part of the chamber in or near the rear wall thereof. The tapering passage 33 is formed between a horizontal plate 22 and an inclined plate 23, both extending across the full width of the chamber. The open front of the chamber is protected by a grill 15 consisting of a number of horizontal bars 36 and a vertical central bar 37. To minimize the effects of glancing winds, a vertical baffle 19 extends rearwardly from the grill 15 in the lower part of the chamber to at least half the depth of the chamber, thus dividing this portion of the chamber into two and a horizontal baffle is arranged to extend across the full width of the chamber just above the vertical baffle and to extend rearwardly from the grill 15 for at least a quarter of the depth of the chamber. The top of the grill 15 also constitutes a horizontal baffle 38 which as well as reducing the effect of glancing winds also helps prevent the ingress of rain into the chamber.
