Abstract

929,958. Latches; key-locks. WILMOTBREEDEN Ltd. June 13, 1961 [June 24, 1960], No. 22127/60. Class 44. In a door fastening device comprising a spring-urged sliding latch bolt 3, a bolt-operating lever 9 and a contactor lever 16 are mounted for pivotal movement about separate axes substantially parallel to the movement of the bolt and the contactor lever 16 is adapted for operation by a lever-type handle to release the device and is slidable transversely of its axis from a normal position in operative engagement with the bolt-operating lever to a locked position in which it is not so engaged therewith. As shown, the operating lever 9, pivoted about an axis 10, is formed with a portion 12 which extends in front of the bolt 3 and with a portion 13 which extends through a slot 14 in the bolt. The contactor lever 16 is mounted on a pin 17 for limited sliding movement which is determined by a slot 21 and which is indexed by a return spring 18. The upper end of the contactor lever overlies the portion 12 of the operating lever 9 with which it makes a pin-and-slot connection 22, 23, such that in the position shown, anticlockwise movement of the lever 16 effects similar movement of the lever 9 and hence withdrawal of the bolt 3. If-the lever 16 is raised from the position shown, so that the pin 22 moves into the upper part of the slot 23, the lever 16 is ineffective to operate the bolt. A link 27 of a remote control linkage makes a pin- and slot connection 25, 26 with the lever 16 and includes a peg 30 which is engaged by a part 29 of a lever type outside handle (not shown). The lever 16 is moved to the raised or locking position thereof by means of a forked lever 32, arms 33, 34 of which are arranged on opposite sides of the portion 20 of the lever 16, the lever 32 being rotatable by an inner knob to engage one or other of the arms 33, 34 with the portion 30. Ears 38 on the lever 32 engage a shaft connected to an outside key-operated cylinder lock. A striker 42 for the bolt 3 includes a portion 43 which is adapted to enter a guide portion 5 of a back-plate 1 and through which the bolt is projected by its spring 6.
