928,823. Anti-breakage flaps in skips and other containers. QUALTER, HALL & CO. (SALES) Ltd. Dec. 15, 1961 [Jan. 20, 1961], No. 2440/61. Class 78 (4). [Also in Group XXXII] The movement of an antibreakage flap 7 (Fig. 1) in a skip or other container about its pivot 8 is controlled by a combined gas and hydraulically operated piston-and-cylinder arrangement A (Fig. 2) constructed as a single component. In the form illustrated in Fig. 1 the device A comprises an annular space 14 forming an airspring separated by an annular free piston 15 from liquid in a space 25 connected through ports 16a, an annular passage 16, and restricting orifices 17, to the interior of an hydraulic cylinder 9 containing a piston 10 connected by a ram 11 to control the flap. Suitable valves are provided for charging the device with air and hydraulic liquid, and for bleeding the hydraulic part of the device, and a pressure gauge may also be provided. The restrictions 17 can be adjusted from outside the device.
