Abstract
928,086. Measuring electrically. BERLINER INDUSTRIEWAAGENFABRIK G.m.b.H. Oct. 31, 1961 [Jan. 11, 1961], No. 38959/61. Class 40 (1). A load cell for weighing comprising a deformable body 1, as shown, a symmetrical body of revolution, to each end of which is bolted a faceplate 4, 5, and the surface of which carries at least two electrical wire resistance strain gauges 12, 13 of which at least one is expanded and at least one compressed by the application of a load to the cell, is further provided with an elastic insert 10 arranged reactively to oppose the tendency of a load to deform the body 1. The strain gauges are connected in a bridge circuit containing a measuring instrument for indicating the load. The body 1 and the insert 10 are preferably both made of steel, and may both have the same modulus of elasticity. As shown, the insert is a cylinder with slots 11 cut therein: alternatively, a helical spring may be used. To obtain a plurality of load cells having similar sensitivities, the bodies of the cells are experimentally matched with a number of different inserts.
