Abstract

Propargyl bromide and/or 2-chloro-3-bromoprene-1 or mixtures containing them are prepared by reacting propargyl chloride and/or 2,3-dichloropropene-1 or mixtures containing them, with an inorganic bromide in the presence of an organic solvent in which the inorganic bromide dissociates partly or completely into positive ion and bromide ion. Specified solvents are dimethylformamide, methanol, glycol and acetone; specified bromides are NaBr, LiBr, and CaBr2. The products of the invention have nematocidal properties (see also Group VI).ALSO:Nematocidal compositions contain propargyl bromide and 2-chloro-3-bromopropene-1, and may also contain the respective starting materials used for obtaining these products (see Group IV (b)), i.e. propargyl chloride and/or 2,3-dichloropropene-1.
