Abstract

925,087. Brake cylinders. AMSTED INDUSTRIES Inc. Aug. 19, 1959, No. 28386/59. Class 103 (1). A brake cylinder 10, fixed by lugs 12 to a vehicle frame, includes two pistons 30 separated by a circlip 18. Piston-rods 32 which may be integral with the pistons, slide in bushes 52 in cylinder end caps 44 held in recesses 46 by circlips 54, a flexible boot 56 being fixed to the rods 32 and caps 44; a bore 58 in each cap and a slit in the boot enables air to escape from the cylinder when the pistons are moved apart by the admission of pressure fluid through connection 28, Fig. 1, rods 26 on either side of this connection extend into the cylinder to prevent circlip 18 rotating to block connection 28. A sealing ring 38 of channel-shaped crosssection is mounted in a recess in each piston adjacent a piston ring 36. The ring 36 and bushing 52 maintain the piston axis coaxial with the longitudinal axis of the cylinder.
