Abstract

899,499. Thrust bearings. NAPIER & SON Ltd., D. Feb. 5, 1959 [Feb. 5, 1958], No. 3802/58. Class 12 (1). A pad-type thrustbearing comprises a number of pads 18 and associated pistons 15 which are mounted resiliently by means of rubber inserts 16 in cylinders 14 arranged in recesses in a member 12, the pads being so supported that in operation a bearing load is substantially equal divided between the pads 18 which bear against a thrust flange 11 on a shaft 10. The inner ends of the cylinders 14 are connected to one another by a common gallery 23 which may be in communication with a high-pressure oil supply 24, or, alternatively, it may be sealed. In the latter case, a pressure indicating device may be connected to the gallery. Diametrically opposed pairs of cylinders may be connected together. The closed end of each cylinder may contain rubber. Specification 899,500 is referred to.
