Abstract

[Also in Group V] Footwear articles, more particularly slippers, are made by placing an upper 12 and insole 13 on an intermediate sole 11, e.g. of jute or felt, over the base of which is an outer sole 10, e.g. of hide, projecting laterally so as to delimit when inserted into a mould, together with the upper 12, intermediate sole 11 and side mould plates 5, 6, a peripheral groove 15 into which plastic material in plastisol form, e.g. polyvinyl chloride plastisol, is injected. The outer sole 10 may, if desired, extend over the joint between the sole mould plate 1 and the side mould plates 5, 6, as shown in Fig. 2, or merely cover the sole mould plate 1. Heating members 9 are provided which, owing to their position, heat only the side of the sole assembly so that the outer sole 10 is but slightly heated. As shown in Fig. 4, the side mould plates may be supported on a base plate 16 by wedges 19 of small surface area so as to provide a space 20 enabling air to circulate. In addition, the sole mould plate 1 may be provided with channels 21 in which a cooling liquid circulates.
