Abstract

A ceramic dielectric material comprises calcium, strontium and bismuth titanates in which the SrTiO3 forms 10-65%, Bi2O3 plus TiO2 (other than that combined with the Ca and Sr) form 3,5-17% by weight of CaTiO3 and SrTiO3, and said TiO2 comprises 50-80 % mole of total TiO2 plus Bi2O3 content. A preferred composition of the ceramic comprises 50g. CaTiO3, 50g. SrTiO3 and 10g. Bi4Ti3O12. The ceramic may be prepared by ball-milling CaTiO3, SrTiO3, Bi2O3 and TiO2 in an aqueous slurry, filtering, drying and firing at 1280-1300 DEG C. Bentonite may be added as a binding agent to the slurry. The use of precalcined CaTiO3 and SrTiO3 is preferred when the SrTiO3 content is high. If a low SrTiO3 content is used the Sr and/or Ca may be added to the slurry in the form of a compound or compounds that decompose when fired to produce the oxides. The dielectric properties and uses of the material are described (see Group XXXVI).
