918,377. Road-breaking or ramming apparatus. LEHANE, MACKENZIE & SHAND Ltd. Nov. 11, 1961 [Aug. 24, 1960], No. 29218/60. Class 107. [Also in Groups XXI and XXIII] Equipment for breaking up tarmac, concrete or rock, and for consolidating materials by tamping comprises a percussive unit 7 mounted vertically at and pivotally connected to the adjacent ends of a pair of parallel links 2, 6 pivotally connected at the other end to an upright 4 secured to a mobile chassis, preferably that of a tractor. The links can be swung up and down by a cable 8 operated by a winch 9 on the chassis, whilst the hammer 22 of the percussive unit is raised prior to free falling on to the breaking and tamping tool 27, 28 associated with the percussive unit by a cable 20. The tool 27, 28 can be coupled by ropes 33 to the hammer 22 by manually operated latch means 34-38 when the tool is to be drawn upwards.
