Abstract

1,038,592. Erecting portal cranes. M. B. WILD & CO. Ltd. June 30, 1965 [July 2, 1964], No. 27313/64. Heading B8B. A portal crane comprising a gantry 10 pivoted at 11, 12 to sectional legs which are bolted together through lugs 13 is erected by a pair of hoisting devices pivotally mounted on bases 14. A leg section is engaged by pivoted latches 20 mounted on a carriage 16 which is drawn up a guide 15 by a winch 18b which may be power driven. Alternatively a hydraulic ram may replace the winch. When the section has been raised high enough, a further section is placed on a step 18 and the two sections are abutted and bolted together. The carriage 16 is now lowered, the latches 20 swinging clockwise as this takes place, and the lowest section is engaged and raised. Links 27, which are attached to a slider 26 in a slot 25, maintain the legs equally inclined.
