Abstract

915,326. Mixing-appliances. SPANGENBERG MASCHINENFABRIK, GUSTAV. April 28, 1960 [April 28, 1959], No. 15042/60. Class 86. A batch mixing machine has a shaft 7 carrying a detachable stirrer comprising a hub 14 and a ring 17 with spokes 15 having their leading edges above their trailing edges 16 so that when the stirrer is rotated clockwise as seen from above, the spokes cause the mix to flow downwards. The trailing edges 16 of the spokes are sharpened in order to prevent the mix from forming deposits thereon. The ring 17 also carries two pairs of vanes 18, 21 having their leading edges below their trailing edges to deflect the mix upwards. The scraper vanes 18 have sharp leading edges 20 to scrape the base of the vessel and curved ends 19 to co-operate with and scrape the curved portion 13 joining the walls and the base ; the blades 21 are straight and inclined upwardly towards the tip, their leading edges 20 also being sharp. The spokes 15 and the vanes 18, 21 are twisted in opposite directions, see also Figs. 2, 4 and 5 (not shown). The stirrer shaft 7 rotates in a hollow shaft 4 which carries an arm 5 from which depends an adjustable scraper blade 6. The stirrer and the scraper blade are rotated in opposite directions and at different speeds by the motors 9, 11. The mixing implements can be raised clear of the container by means of the telescopic column 1, 2; the container is mounted on trunnions and can be emptied by tilting. The mixer is intended primarily for the mixing of certain dry powder or graular thermoplastic substances of which one may become sticky due to the heat generated by the mixing.
