Abstract

Aluminium alloys suitable for anodic oxidation comprise:- .Al. .Mg 0.4 -2.0%,.preferably 0.6-1.0% .Cu 0.05-0.15%. .Cr 0.05-0.15%. .Fe up to 0.15%,.preferably up to 0.08% max .Si up to 0.15%,.preferably up to 0.06% max .Mn up to 0.05%,.preferably up to 0.01% max .Ti trace to 0.05%,.preferably up to 0.02% max Prior to anodic treatment the alloy may be soaked at 1100 DEG to 1150 DEG C. for 4 to 16 hours, cooled to room temperature and then reheated to hot working temperature or it may be cooled directly to the hot-working temperature after the soaking treatment.
