Abstract

A nickel-chromium alloy has the following composition:-Ni or Ni plus Co not less than 50 per cent with the Co not exceeding 30 per cent of the alloy; Cr 10-30 per cent; Ti 1-4 per cent; Al 0.2-3.0 per cent; C not more than 0.5 per cent; Si not more than 2.0 per cent; Mn not more than 2 per cent; Fe not more than 7.0 per cent. The alloy may contain one or more of Mo, W, V, Nb, Cu not exceeding 10 per cent in total and small quantities of S and N as impurities. The heat treatment consists in heating the alloy for between 1 and 12 hours at a temperature between 1050 DEG C. and 1200 DEG C., cooling it in air or quenching it in oil or water, ageing it by reheating for 12 to 18 hours at a temperature between 650 DEG C. and 750 DEG C., cooling it in air and then heating it for up to 10 hours at a temperature between 800 DEG C. and 1000 DEG C., cooling it in air or oil and heating it to a temperature between 600 DEG C. and 900 DEG C. for up to 10 hours and then cooling in air.
