914,099. Pistons. LIST, H. Nov. 9, 1959 [Nov. 10, 1958], No. 37862/59. Class 122 (1). The gudgeon-pin bores 2 in a piston for an internal-combustion engine are provided with circumferential grooves 3 which are spaced apart a distance axially of the bores less than 5 millimetres and so arranged that the area of the bearing surfaces is approximately 2 to 5 times the area lost because of the presence of the grooves. The grooves, which may have a depth of between 0.2 and 1 millimetre, may be of helical form and, if desired, provided in bushes inserted in the bores. The grooves may be fed with oil or filled with a permanent lubricant such as graphite, ferrous oxide or molybdenum sulphide.
