Abstract

912,560. Granulating in extrusion machines. ALEXANDERWERK A.G. Nov. 23, 1960 [Nov. 23, 1959], No. 40292/60. Class 87(2). In a method of granulating mositure-containing material, e.g. fertilisers or ceramic materials, the material is fed into the pinch of two rollers 3, 4 to form a sheet which adheres to roller 3 and is carried by it into the nip between roller 3 and a, hollow perforated drum 1, rotating in the same direction, so that the material is forced out of the perforations to form rod-like extrusions subsequently removed by a cutter 5. The rollers 3, 4 may be coated with a wear resistant ceramic material and the inner peripheral speed of the drum is preferably greater than the peripheral speed of roller 3 which is in turn greater than that of roller 4. The drum is rotated at constant speed, and the speed of rotation of the rollers is variable to enable the size of the granules to be varied.
