Abstract

912,145. Measuring torque. HINDMARCH, T. March 14, 1961 [April 1, 1960], No. 11517/60. Class 106 (2). [Also in Groups XXIV, XXIX and XXXIII] A torque indicator comprises a shaft 1 carrying a helical gear 2 and mounted in a thrust bearing 3 whereby the shaft moves axially in response to changes of torque. A piston 4, having a groove 5 in communication with a chamber 10, is moved in response to changes of torque to connect the chamber 10 to an inlet 12 or exhaust 13 to vary the pressure until the piston is moved to the neutral position shown. The chamber 10 is connected to a pressure gauge 9 which gives the measurement of torque.
