[Also in Group XXIII] A combined writing and cutting instrument comprises a fastening clip secured to the instrument casing having cutting means for opening ampoules. As shown in Fig. 1, the clip 4 has a hard metal blade 5 with a cutting- edge 6. By depressing the clip with the neck of an ampoule positioned beneath the blade 5 the glass of the ampoule is scored. The neck of the ampoule may then be broken off by slightly pressing or twisting the ampoule. In a modification, two blades 9 and 10, Fig. 2 (not shown), are provided for dealing with ampoules of different neck diameters. In other embodiments, a cutting-wheel 16, Fig. 3 (not shown), and a saw 20, Fig. 4 (not shown) are provided. In another embodiment, a clip 21, Fig. 5, of resilient material has tooth-like gripping edges 31 defining a space 32 into which the neck of an ampoule may be inserted to engage a metal blade 34 or blades for first scoring and then breaking off the neck of the ampoule. In another embodiment, a blade 43, Fig. 8 (not shown), is moved into cutting engagement with an ampoule neck 45, against the action of a spring 44, by a push-button 40.
