Abstract
742,809. Cutting glass. BAKKE, B. April 9, 1953. No. 9669/53. Class 56 Glass sheets, previously scored along a line of severance, are supported on the scored face and pressed on the other face opposite to the score, to open the cut preliminarily to subsequent breaking off. Fig. 4 shows the instrument for effecting this, comprising a supporting face 28, e.g., of plastic having a recess 29 to be aligned with the score mark, and a pressure head 24 carried by a lever 19 pivoted at 20 to an extension 12 projecting from a handle 10 carrying the face 28. The lever 19 is urged by a spring 21 away from the face 28, and is operated to apply pressure to the glass 1 by a roller end 17 on, or a link connection with, a lever 14 pivoted at 15 to the extension 12. The head 24 may be of plastic and is revoluble on a cylindrical end of the lever 19 to present a selected face to the glass, according as to whether a transverse rib 25, or longitudinal rib 26, or a dome 27 is to be used. The head is locked in the selected position by a spring-ball detent.
