A gas burner assembly adapted to be supported in an aperture in a table 3 or cabinet top comprises a spill plate 1 secured to a burner head 5 and a shield 11 enclosing the underside of the spill plate 1. The spill plate 1 has a radial flange 2 which rests on the table 3 and is provided with air inlets 17. The burner head comprises a grooved plug 6 seating on a cup-shaped part and providing therewith gas jets 7. A gas nozzle 10 draws air into a mixing tube 8 connected to the burner head. A flash back tube 13 extends from the burner head to the side wall of the shield 1 and encloses an electric igniter 14. The shield is cylindrical and has a flange 12 resting on the table 3. Air apertures 18 are formed in the shield. The assembly may comprise two or more burners and a single elongated spill plate and shield.
