905,079. Typewriters. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATION. Dec. 22, 1959 [Dec. 22, 1958], No. 43531/59. Addition to 803,086. Class 100 (4). [Also in Group XXXVI] A tabulation arrangement for a typewriter or like machine comprises a master sheet 11 positioned on a platen 12 in relation to a work sheet 13, the master sheet having sensible marks 16 corresponding to required tabulation positions and which are sensed by a transducer 21 mounted in a fixed position relative to a printing station. When a mark is sensed a thyratron is fired for a short time depending on the discharge of a condenser (see Group XXXVI) and a tabulation stop 44 is rocked to engage a central stop. The stops may be restored automatically or by the operation of tabulation clear key. In the embodiment described magnetic marks are provided in the form of strips secured in position and the transducer is a static-read or a derivative type read head. Alternatively the marks may be sensed by photo-electric apparatus. Specification 856,755 also is referred to.
