Abstract

1,142,343. Printing apparatus. ENGLISH NUMBERING MACHINES Ltd. 6 June, 1966 [19 Aug., 1965], No. 35535/65. Heading B6C. In a travelling-cylinder printing machine a sheet of paper 5 is placed upon a printing plate 1 bearing relief symbols 2 and an impression of three symbols is effected on the underside of the paper in magnetic ink, an intermittently fed movable ribbon of such a substance being placed between the plate and the paper. The printing plate also incorporates raised spacing bars 3 which are of substantially the same height as the symbols 2 and which ensure correct printing pressure when the travelling-cylinder in the form of an impression roller 10 moves over the superposed paper and plate assembly. In a modified machine the plate 1 has rows of symbols with spacing bars similar to 3 therebetween and alongside. An ink ribbon and associated feed mechanism is provided for each row of symbols.
