Abstract

904,272. Swash plate pumps. LEDUC, R. July 21, 1960 [July 21, 1959], No. 25421/60. Class 102(1). In a swash-plate hydraulic pump the feed to the 3 or more cylinders 12 is controlled by an arcuate groove 18 in the operative face 17 of the swashplate 4 so that the cylinders are fed during part of their suction strokes and the feed shut off during their delivery strokes. The position of groove 18 on swash-plate 4 is such that at the top deadcentre position of each piston 11 the leading end of the groove is a distance d from the corresponding cylinder inlet 19 and at the bottom dead-centre position the trailing end is tangential to inlet 19. This results in the formation of a void in the cylinder 12 during part of the suction stroke until groove 18 overlaps inlet 19 to admit liquid. After rotation through 180 degrees inlet 19 is covered and the delivery stroke effected. Liquid enters the pump through an inlet 9, passes into cylinders 12 via collector spaces 10, cavity 8, groove 18, inlets 19 and bores 14 and is delivered via non-return valves 21, spaces 22 and an outlet duct. Load-transfer pads 16 are of anti-friction metal.
