903,175. Clips; screw fastenings; stud-andsocket fastenings. UNITED-CARR FASTENER CORPORATION. June 17, 1960 [June 30, 1959], No. 21421/60. Classes 44 and 89 (1). A fastening device for attaching a shelf guard 36 to a refrigerator door pan 30, for example, comprises a base 10 having two spaced yieldable arms 20 each formed with shoulders 24, 28 spaced longitudinally of the arm adjacent its outer end such that on the base being inserted into an aperture 34 in the door pan the shoulders will be positioned on opposite faces of the pan and the device will be held in assembly by the outwardly-directed resilient pressure of the arms, the base 10 also being provided with means extending upwardly of the base between the arms and in the same direction for engagement by a fastener element adapted to secure the guard 30 to the device. The device is made of synthetic plastic material such as nylon and the shoulders 24, 28 are respectively provided by bent-over bifurcated end portions 22 of the arms 20 and angular projections 26 integral with the arms. The means projecting upwardly of the base is a tubular portion 14 integral with the base 10 and with side walls 12 integrally projecting from the base, the portion 14 having an aperture therethrough to receive a self-tapping screw 38 which passes through, e.g. by being screwed through, an aperture 40 in the shelf guard 36. In a second embodiment, Fig. 6 (not shown), the tubular portion 14 is replaced by a stud member for engagement by a fastener of known form for releasably securing the stud within a cavity in the shelf guard. In a third embodiment, Fig. 7 (not shown), the base 10, the side walls 12 and the tubular portion 14 are formed as a parallelepiped which has several apertures for engaging screws.
