Abstract

887,816. Stud and socket fastenings; spring clips; anchor-nuts. ILLINOIS TOOL WORKS. May 2, 1958, No. 14098/58. Classes 44 and 89(1). A fastener of deformable mouldable non- metallic material for snapping into a panel aperture comprises a shank and a head, and a wing fixed to the shank end remote from the head and projecting towards the head to be resilient towards the shank as it is applied through the aperture. In one arrangement, a hole 26, Fig. 1, extends through shank 30 and head 22 to receive a screw, there being two wings 36, 38, Fig. 4, of substantially the same width as the shank, the free end of each wing having a clamping surface 44 and a projection 48, and the shank having a slot 60 between the wings. Screw 28 cuts a thread in hole 26 and, when tightened, compresses the wings so that the projections engage opposed edges of the panel opening and slot 60 causes the shank to grip the screw. The projections may have lateral head extensions to prevent the wings passing completely through the opening. Alternatively the head may be wider than the shank and slotted or apertured to save material. In another arrangement, a clip 100, Fig. 7, is integral with a shank 30e having wings 36e, 38e by which the shank is fixed in a panel opening. In a modification, clips 112, 114, Fig. 9, are integral with the winged shank. In yet another arrangement, the shank has a single wing 38g Fig. 10, and a groove 126.
