Abstract

903,102. Pneumatic conveyers. ACME VENTILATING Ltd. June 23, 1960 [June 23, 1959], No. 21472/59. Class 78 (1). Material such as damp foundry sand is admitted to a pipe 2 through a hopper 20 and air is drawn through the system from an inlet 19 by means of an exhauster unit 13 driven by a motor 17. The material is conveyed to an outlet at 10 controlled by a valve 15 and a filter is provided for the air at 16. In a modification (Fig. 1, not shown) the exhauster unit 13 is replaced by a piston-type compressor pump at the other end of the system. The hopper 20 may be formed with a Venturi shape (Fig. 3) and may be controlled by an adjustable slide 25. Air may be admitted through side panels 27 of porous material. In an alternative combined hopper and air inlet (Fig. 5), a Venturi action is produced by a tapered air inlet passage 35 leading to the base of the hopper 29. Electrical or mechanical vibrations may be applied to the passage 35 at 36. The outlet chamber 10 may comprise a series of weighted rubber curtains 39 which tend to deflect the material entering at 38 to an outlet 40. Air passes to the exhauster at 41.
