Abstract

1,075,174. Carding engines. MAREMONT CORPORATION. June 24, 1964 [June 25, 1963], No. 26084/64. Headings D1F and D1N. A flat carding machine has pneumatic means for removing short fibres from the card cylinder and stripping fibres and trash from the flats including a suction hood with a mouth extending across the machine near the flats to create an airflow between the flats. The distance between flats in the region of carding relationship with the main cylinder is at least 0.035 inch. By providing the mouth with a lip 54 which is as long as a flat is wide, suction air is drawn along each flat 16 as it moves alongside the lip as well as through the spaces between flats. A clearance of the order of 3/16" to 3/8" between the lip and flat teeth is mentioned.
