Abstract
901,564. Refrigerating. DE HAVILLAND AIRCRAFT CO. Ltd. March 23, 1961 [March 31, 1960], No. 11307/60. Class 29. [Also in Group XXVI] Liquid refrigerant is withdrawn by a pump 24 from the receiver 14 of a compression system and supplied to a boiler 22, the vapour from which drives a vapour motor 20 (see Group XXVI) operating the compressor 18 and exhausting into the condenser 16. The motor may also drive the pump. The motor speed is controlled in accordance with the pressure in evaporator 10 by a by-pass valve 26 connecting the pump outlet to the receiver. In a motor vehicle, the evaporator cools air to be supplied to the passenger compartment and the boiler is heated either by the engine cooling system or by the exhaust gases. In an aircraft, air bled from the compressor of a gas turbine is first cooled by heating the boiler and is then further cooled by the evaporator and supplied to the cabin. The refrigerant may be dichlorotetrafluoroethane.
